Inverclyde Council has been successful in securing funding from the Scottish Government to improve the civic realm West Blackhall Street. The charity Sustrans who administer the Places for Everyone funding have asked for additional community engagement regarding the design of the separation between the footway and the cycle track.

The Materials
Sustrans have outlined three potential materials to use on the path, to mark the separation between the walking and cycling areas of the path. Sustrans are interested in which material would benefit people the most, especially those with impaired vision. The video detailing materials can be found futher down the page, or linked here: bit.ly/wbhvid
The first option is the use of corduroy tactile paving to create a continuous row between the footway and cycle track. Corduroy tactiles are a commonly used surface that indicates a potential hazard.
The second option is a trapezoidal demarcation kerb, this has been used on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow.
The final option is to reuse the existing cobbles (also known as sets) from West Blackhall to create a half metre wide surface between the footway and cycle track. This option arguably retains more of the heritage of the street.
We are very open to other ideas, so if you can think of a better way then please let us know by clicking the button below and taking part in the survey!
