Mental Health Awareness Week

Its MHAW with this year’s theme being loneliness.

Our Social Prescribing Co-ordinator Sean Macfarlane explains....

Loneliness affects many of us at one time or another. Our Social Prescribing / Community Connector team encourage people to build meaningful connections within their community – this might be encouragement to join a peer support group, attend a community social café or simply have someone to chat to throughout the week!

Evidence suggests there are 5 steps people can take to improve their mental health and wellbeing in the broadest sense;

  • Connect with other people – this can help you to build a sense of belonging and self-worth, call someone you haven’t spoke to in a while, arrange to meet up!

  • Be physically Active – Find something you enjoy and do more of it! walking, swimming, tai chi, you will fell the benefit!

  • Learn new skills – this can help boost your self-confidence, try a new hobby, try some new, you never know you might really enjoy it!

  • Give to others – small acts of kindness can have huge rewards, spend time with friends or family who would benefit from your company, explore volunteering opportunities within your community!

  • Pay attention to the present moment – Breath! Focus on the present moment, take notice of your surroundings, and be grateful for things that are good in your life
